Mochi, the first single from Bandler Ching's upcoming album Mercurial, highlights the trio's newfound energy and creativity.
The song serves as a tribute to the eponymous delicious Japanese treat, reflecting its soft, tender nature. It opens with a nostalgic '80s bassline that gradually gives way to a dreamlike soundscape, featuring soaring clavier melodies, ethereal saxophone accents, and pulsating electronic drum pads. The track was crafted in the intimate setting of Bandler Ching's Brussels rehearsal space, emerging from a spontaneous interplay between drums and bass.
With this new single comes a video set in a retro, grainy world. The clip follows two characters in a quirky exchange with a mysterious vendor, where the traditional Japanese treat becomes the centerpiece of a surreal story. With a playful nod to other dimensions and a dreamlike atmosphere, it fits perfectly within the vibrant energy of the track.
Fans of experimental electronic icons like Ivy Lab, Weval, and Sam Gendel will find much to admire in the upcoming Mercurial album— it’s a next step in pushing to a new musical territory and boldly casting off the jazz genre in the process.
It’s been two years since Bandler Ching first released their debut album Coaxial on Sdban Ultra. Kicking off the album campaign with an album release show in Volta, the Brussels hotbed for a new generation of Belgian artists. What followed was a series of concerts in key venues and festivals across Belgium and the Netherlands to honorable reviews in national and specialized press.
