Bandler Ching lets their sound do the talking on 'Époustouflant,’ the second single from their upcoming album to be released in early 2025.
When one masters a language only partially, certain words can take on a life of their own. Époustouflant —a French word that eludes translation— is in this way the perfect description of Bandler Ching's latest single. It’s a track where meaning takes the backseat to the sheer energy of sound and rhythm.
At the heart of Époustouflant lies a catchy riff that propels this adventurous composition. If you listen closely, you’ll catch a nod to the late noughties right from the outset, with hints of Hudson Mohawke's early work interwoven with a footwork-inspired groove, creating an irresistible danceable pulse. Though the track might suggest it was crafted entirely with laptop software, the reality couldn’t be further from the truth. This is the work of a trio, where classic instruments—bass, sax, drums—are seamlessly blended with a touch of synths. The elements merge, overlap, and transform, blurring their individual identities into cohesive waves of sound.
This hypnotic, repetitive track comes to life in a unique visualizer by Benoit Vangeel (known for his work with Tamino, Amenra, Black Box Revelation, BLUAI,...). Evoking a sense of mechanical rhythm and relentless motion, perfectly mirroring the song's evolving patterns and driving force.
